Problem

GFI, a division of Thomas and Betts, is a Montreal based metal fabrication shop. GFI had been using a central dust collection system in their grinding shop, which extracted dust directly from the grinders. They found the system to be cumbersome and reduced the mobility of their workers. GFI called Diversi-Tech to help find a solution that allowed them to collect all dust while giving their workers complete mobility.

The Solution

A standard 3ft. x 6ft. Downdraft Table with side and back walls was recommended. A surface of 18 ft2 was ample to accommodate most of GFI´s products and a face velocity of 200 FPM (feet per minute) was more than adequate to capture all dust generated by the process. GFI also opted for the "Low Profile "option, which brings the table from the standard height of 36" down to 32". This allowed their shorter employees to work at a comfortable height. After a no obligation trial of the product, GFI was convinced, and they purchased Tables for all 4 grinding stations.
