To determine which OSHA regulations apply to your operation, you will need to consider factors such as the number of people involved in the process, the dimension of the work space, the risk profile of the dust or fume being produced. For each airborne contaminant, OSHA specifies the Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs), and allowable Time Weighted Average of exposure. Wherever high concentration levels of fumes or dust are produced, OSHA guidelines call for “capture at source” ventilation.
